When the kidneys are unable to conserve water as they perform their function of filtering blood, there can appear an uncommon condition called diabetes insipidus.

ADH, also called vasopressin is the hormone that controls the amount of water conserved. This hormone is produced in the hypothalamus, a region of the brain, and then is stored and released from the pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain.

When a lack of ADH causes diabetes insipidus, we can say we are dealing with a condition called central diabetes insipidus.

The condition called nephrogenic diabetes insipidus appears when diabetes insipidus is caused by failure of the kidneys to respond to ADH.

We must mention that diabetes insipidus has as major symptoms excessive urination and extreme thirst.

It is known that as a result of the damage to the hypothalamus or pituitary gland after a surgery, infection, tumor, or head injury, there can appear central diabetes insipidus.

This diabetes is rare, but even so, it is more common than nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.

In what concerns nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, it is related to a defect in the parts of the kidneys that reabsorb water back into the bloodstream. This diabetes can also appear because of an inherited disorder. Male children receive from their mothers on the X chromosome the abnormal gene that causes the disease.

Diseases of the kidney like polycystic kidney disease and the effects of certain drugs like lithium, amphotericin B, demeclocycline can also cause nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.

Usually, diabetes insipidus can show symptoms like excessive thirst- which can be intense or uncontrollable and may involve a craving for ice water- and excessive urine volume.

As signs and tests we can mention urinalysis, MRI of the head, and in what concerns the urine output, in central diabetes insipidus is suppressed by a dose of ADH, and in nephrogenic diabetes insipidus not suppressed by a dose of ADH.

It is very important to treat the cause of the underlying condition if possible.

Vasopressin, which can be administered as either a nasal spray or tablets can control central diabetes insipidus . Unfortunately, this is not effective for patients with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.

If nephrogenic diabetes insipidus is caused by medication, it is important to quit that medication because this will lead to recovery of normal kidney function.

In what concerns hereditary nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, this is treated with fluid intake to match urine output and drugs that lower urine output.

It is known that there can appear complications because of the inadequate fluid consumption. We can mention dry skin, dry mucous membranes, fever, rapid heart rate, height loss, fatigue, lethargy, headache, muscle pains, and other.

It is important to know that if treated, diabetes insipidus does not cause severe problems or reduce life expectancy.

The starting point when looking at diabetes is to understand that it is a chronic condition which is typified by a distorted metabolism and raised blood sugar levels which give rise to lower levels of insulin. It is also important to note that the symptoms of diabetes can mask themselves to look like many other disorders and the condition can thus go undetected for years. Screening for this particular condition is important because early diagnosis and prompt treatment greatly improve the quality of life for those who are suffering from this condition.

There are 2 major types of diabetes that those people who are unfamiliar with the condition normally find it difficult to separate and these are type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by the destruction of pancreatic beta cells which itself is the result of an auto-immune attack. It cannot be prevented and accounts for about ten percent of all cases of diabetes in Europe and North America. This type of diabetes can be seen in both children and adults and is what people are referring to when they talk about Juvenile Diabetes.

This form of the disease can be very effectively treated by monitoring blood glucose levels and adding insulin to the body. Both types of diabetes can require supplementary insulin and diabetic coma can follow if the body’s insulin level falls too quickly.

In addition to taking insulin, the best form of management for type 1 diabetes is diet and exercise. Individuals with this condition need to be aware of their body glucose level and ensure that insulin is topped up as necessary by injection or use of an insulin pump.

Unlike type 1 diabetes, the type 2 form of this disease occurs because of insulin resistance or insulin sensitivity and the body’s reduced insulin production. This form of diabetes is common in people who suffer from obesity, are advanced in age, have a family history of the condition and who do not take enough exercise.

Individuals suffering from type 1 diabetes have to take medication because their bodies are unable to create insulin. However, type 2 diabetics have several different choices when it comes to controlling their condition. Exercise and diet might well be sufficient to control type 2 diabetes although oral medication and insulin might also be part of a treatment plan.

There are a lot of different treatment plans available but the most important element of the equation is the patient. This may well be a chronic disease but that does not mean that it has to be a lost cause and there are various ways in which you can keep the body healthy when you are a diabetic. In fact, the diabetic himself is the key player when it comes to fighting the side effects of this all too common disease.

Diabetes in children is also referred to as juvenile diabetes, but the more common name for it is type 1 diabetes. It is the most prominent form of diabetes existing in children with a stunning ninety to ninety-five percent of carriers being under people under the ages of 16.

Juvenile diabetes is caused by the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin. It is an autoimmune disease, which means or is caused when the bodies defense system attacks the body’s tissues or organs.

In the past 30 years the number of Juvenile Diabetes has increased three folds over and in Europe and the US we are now sadly seeing type 2 diabetes in children for the first time.

Obesity and lack of exercise easily explains type 2 diabetes, but not the staggering increase of type 1 diabetes in children. It is alleged that a mixture of genetics and environmental factors are the triggers for juvenile diabetes. But the majority of children plagued with the ailment do not have a family history of diabetes.

The symptoms for type 1 diabetes in children are much the same as type 2 diabetes in adults. Weight loss, dehydration, thirst, fatigue, frequent urination is typical, but diabetes in children can also increase stomach pains, headaches and behavioral problems.

Doctors should consider the likelihood of diabetes in children who have inexplicable stomach pains for a few weeks, along with the typical symptoms.

If you suspect your child may be experiencing these horrid symptoms, you should schedule them as soon as possible for a thorough examination and alert your doctor about your suspicions on what your child may have. Be sure to inform them about any and all symptoms your child may be experiencing.

It is quite agonising finding out that a precious child is a sufferer of this dreaded ailment. Though the insulin shots religiously provided to the child does help, what most parents crave for most is a total cure. All parents desire and demand that their children lead very normal and exciting lives.

Diabetes can leave the child weak and also encourage excessive sleeping which obviously robs the child of youth. Parents are compelled to keep a regular supply of insulin to prevent full blown diabetes from rearing its ugly head.

Another worry for parents is the long term agony the child may experience in their adult years. One great fear is them becoming parents. This may lead to sad consequences as diabetes can cause birth defects.

Apart from that, diabetes is presently the leading cause of amputations and blindness in the United States alone and there is this worry that as they grow older, they too are bound to be faced squarely with these challenges.

Parents should take things one day at a time. “Do not bother about the next day as each day carries enough of its own anxieties” said the great teacher, Jesus Christ. This is only wise lest the parent develops hypertension which will now be another serious ailment to worry about.

Orthodox science is presently doing all it can to develop not medical solutions for type 1 diabetes but also for type 2 diabetes as well. They will eventually succeed.

Herbal medecine does provide excellent alternatives in this regard. Stories of Asians who never develop this ugly ailment have been documented and is worth looking into now.

When a kid has diabetes, there are several experiences that they lose out on. Halloween for the diabetic kid, means picking up a bag of treats they will not get to enjoy. Playing at a friend’s’s house entails heading home for medication or a shot, and having to decline to sweet nibbles if they are offered. Class parties can leave a kid feeling left out when sugary treats are being served and a birthday without cake and ice cream appears dismal.

Come visit us right here for more info on Diabetes Warning Signs. http://childdiabetes.org

If you have a child that has been diagnosed as having diabetes, there are methods to make their birthday special. With a little preplanning a birthday celebration for a diabetic kid can be plenty of fun for everybody.

As your kid’s party approaches, make sure that they’re eating thoroughly and doing all they can to keep their blood sugar levels under control. The fun of the day can change their appetite and not eating can wreak havoc on blood sugar. Ensure that on the day of the party, your kid eats a good breakfast and has a snack before everybody arrives. Ensure that they are well rested the evening before their party and if at all possible have your child take a short rest or nap the day of their party.

If it is too hard to plan a menu that your kid can eat and the other guests will enjoy, simply plan to have your party in the afternoon, so guests will not be expecting you to serve them lunch or dinner. If you are providing food, ensure that there are lots of healthy things to eat, served in fun ways. Put out trays of plants rather than chips with dip, or crackers and cheese.

Instead of giving candy as party favors, give out small toys. The youngsters will be so busy, that a lack of snacks will not bother them.

It is tough to avoid a birthday cake at a party. If your kid’s diabetes is in hand, a small piece doubtless will not do any harm them. You can even check with your bakery and see if they’ve a diabetic friendly recipe for birthday cake.

The best thing you can do to make your child feel special on their birthday is to make the day as ordinary as possible . Don’t make your child eat sugar free cake while the guests get a sugar sweetened variety. Don’t make a big deal over the proven fact that the cake is sugar free. Most of your visitors will probably not even notice. Just have a great time, keep an eye on your child, and congratulate yourself on another year of successfully controlling your tiny one’s diabetes.
